TUBAC--More
public discussion on proposals to develop parts of the Sopori Ranch
northwest of Tubac is planned here Tuesday.
The
Santa Cruz
County
's Planning Advisory Committee will meet at
2 p.m.
at the
Tubac
Community Center
, the old elementary school north of the village.
Owners of the 60,000-acre Sopori
Ranch have proposed some changes to some of the current zoning that
would permit some increase in density among other things.
Architect John Sather, who has developed the plan, said it would
enhance the area and keep out piecemeal growth if the ranch was
broken down and sold to individuals. In June. Sather told the
committee that there are restraints proposed on the development and
they'd be memorialized and recorded at the courthouse. If
subsequent buyers asked to change those restraints, the county could
reject the request citing the previously agreed conditions.
Some
Tubac-area residents and others fear the changes would mean dense
development that would defile the desert.
The ranch consists of 47,000 leased acres and 13,000 privately owned
acres. The planning advisory committee is helping draft the county's
new comprehensive plan which the state has ordered completed by
year's end.
